Queensland’s peak seafood lobby group has a new leader and, for the first time in its 100-year history, it’s a woman.
Karen Collard is unashamedly the “wife of a fisherman” and says her ascendancy to the top job is a natural progression for an industry built of the back of family fishing operations.
“I married a fisherman and he’s got saltwater running through his veins,” she said.
“As much as the men go out on the ocean, and some women do the fishing as well, we need to recognize that all parties get involved.”
