Raw material shortage hinders Vietnam

Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) on 14 March said the target to achieve an export turnover of USD 6.5 billion this year seemed unattainable, as most seafood companies are facing a shortage of raw material and funds.

According to statistics, from 1 January to 15 February this year, the country’s seafood export revenue was estimated at USD 558 million, an increase of 9 percent over the same period last year. However, to increase export revenues, the country needs to import more raw material.
