Show attendees drawn to Twitter Wall

The 2010 International Boston Seafood Show kicked off on Sunday with a new feature to help bring it up to speed with the rapidly developing age of social media: a “Twitter Wall.”

Made up of four flat-screen panels located next to the registration area on the ground level of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, the Twitter Wall was the source of much attention when doors opened. Visitors were greeted with an onslaught of Twitter updates from exhibitors and attendees at the show.

“Looking forward to first day of the Boston Seafood Show #IBSS10. Stop by Integrative Flavors booth 617 to see our variety of products,” @soupbases tweeted. “@boston seafood made to the show w/@PacCatchChef getting ready for the Consumer & Sustainability forum #IBSS10,” @PacCatchC00 tweeted. “iPura Tilapia tacos are being served in our Booth #2365 wrapped in corn tortillas! Pls stop by and enjoy! #ibss10,” iPura tweeted.

The live feed was displayed by aggregating the hashtag “#IBSS10” so that anyone using the tag across the Twitter platform could have their tweet seen by thousands of eyes at the show.

“The Twitter wall is intended to give exhibitors, attendees, show management and others in the seafood industry a real-time, visible platform to read about the experiences of their colleagues at the show and is a vehicle to capture the attention of visitors who are members of the younger generations,” said Mary Larkin, VP of seafood expositions for Diversified Business Communications, producer of the International Boston Seafood Show.

“The social media world is changing how people receive information and share their experiences about events. Twitter in-particular allows visitors and exhibitors to transparently comment about the International Boston Seafood Show and we wanted a way to capture and showcase those comments for the rest of the event audience,” Larkin added.
