SOTA announces chef contest winners

Salmon of the Americas on Wednesday announced the 10 winners of its inaugural Taste of Success chef contest.

Contestants were comprised of culinary students from Le Cordon Bleu Schools in North America, with winners coming from schools in Dallas, Pittsburgh, Austin, Texas, and Miramar, Fla.

In first place, with a prize of a USD 3,000 (EUR 2,250), the scholarship winner was Philippe Verain. The second-place prize of a USD 2,000 (EUR 1,500) scholarship went to Larry Deffo and the four third-place winners, who received sets of chef tools, were Brian Moses, Vertima Smith, Margarito Aranda and Warren McDonald.

The four fourth-place winners - James Tahhan, Willet Feng, Andre Palmer and Steven Herff - each took home a grocery card.

The students submitted recipes and videos featuring farmed salmon, which are featured on SOTA's Web site at www.chef-contest.com. Winners were selected based on popularity and votes received from visitors to the site. Voting ended on 13 April.

The contest aimed to raise awareness about the farmed-salmon industry while providing the opportunity to win prizes and scholarship money.
