Sysco scoops up Florida's North Star Seafood

North Star Seafood has been acquired by major global retailer Sysco Corporation, the latter announced on 25 February.

Specializing in the distribution of high-quality fresh and frozen seafood, North Star is accustomed to serving Florida’s local, wholesale, cruise, export and retail markets. The company accrues approximately USD 218 million in sales annually, and falls in well with the rest of Sysco’s seafood catalogue.

"We are pleased and excited to welcome North Star Seafood to the Sysco family of meat and seafood companies," said Tom Bené, Sysco's president and chief operating officer, in a news release. "With its high-touch reputation for serving customers and deep relationships with more than 300 seafood suppliers worldwide, we believe we now can provide an even greater experience to Sysco's customers in Florida and those who've enjoyed North Star's services for many years."

North Star’s current employee workforce and management team will remain intact, Sysco confirmed. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
