An increase in imported shrimp broodstock couldn’t detract from the “depressingly familiar problems” still plaguing Chinese shrimp hatcheries at the close of 2015, according to SeafoodSource Contributing Editor Gao Fu Mao, reporting from Beijing, China.
“Despite numerous plans and subsidies from government, the country simply hasn’t been able to effectively deal with issues like overuse of chemicals, bad breeding and poor quality feed, hence a shrimp supply of inconsistent quality,” Gao wrote of China’s struggle with quality in its shrimp farming sector.
