6.) Vietnam’s vexation
With the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep) projecting that export turnover from shrimp would likely shrink to USD 3 billion (EUR 2.6 billion) by the end of 2015, and with many Mekong Delta shrimp farmers reporting heavy losses, the outlook for Vietnam’s shrimp industry appeared bleak at the close of last year.
While shrimp exports were up at the onset of 2016 – earning USD 227.4 million (EUR 199.6 million) in January and USD 151 million (EUR 132.5 million) in February – the overall decline in 2015 still shadows the sector.
