Thanks to a new processing facility, New Bedford, Mass.-based Marder Trawling has launched a subsidiary company, Total Seafood Packaging.
The facility, which opened in April, is SSOP, HACCP and SQF Level 3 certified. The plant is also on its way to being British Retail Consortium certified under the Global Food Safety Initiative.
Total Seafood Packaging’s plant is equipped to process all varieties of seafood, and is already in the process of further expansion.
“We can either source the seafood ourselves, or we can process, package and freeze product for other companies,” said Andy Barroll, sales manager. “Because of our new plant, we have the freezing and packaging equipment to handle all of our clients varied and specialized packaging and freezing needs.
“Also, with the growth of the private-label seafood market, we feel that there is a real opportunity to work with leading retailers, restaurants, wholesalers and foodservice companies who are looking for a company that could provide all of their private label sourcing, freezing and specialized packaging needs.”
