John Whitehead has been reappointed by the UK Fisheries Minister Richard Benyon as chair of Seafish through December.
Whitehead was first appointed to the role in June 2010. The reappointment will lend continuity to Seafish, which is currently in the process of developing a new structure and business plan as a result of the government led “Discussion with Industry” process held last fall.
“I am delighted that John will be with us throughout 2012,” said Seafish CEO Paul Williams. “His support and experience will be invaluable to Seafish as we embed the new structure and work program which we expect to be able to reveal to industry in coming weeks.”
“I am very pleased to be able to carry on as Seafish chair. This will be a key year for the organization as it responds to the ‘Discussion with Industry’ process and sets out some new ways of working,” said Whitehead. “We are beginning the process of appointing a new board and establishing new structures within the organization. Our clear objective is to set Seafish on a path that will ensure it can be even more effective in meeting the long term needs of a sustainable and profitable UK seafood industry.”
