Wrangell Seafoods Awarded Damages

Wrangell Seafoods of Wrangell, Alaska, late last week announced that it was granted an interim award for breach of contract by seafood marketers Royal Greenland U.S. and Ed Bahrt and Associates.

Arbitrator Thomas Brewer of The American Arbitration Association entered the award, finding Royal Greenland and Bahrt jointly and severally liable. The award also provided further relief for attorneys' fees and litigation costs in an amount to be determined.

In addition to the award, the arbitrator dismissed all counterclaims that Royal Greenland and Bahrt had asserted against Wrangell.

"The interim award to Wrangell Seafoods could not have come at a better time," said Douglas Roberts, Wrangell chairman, in a press release. "Royal Greenland U.S. and Ed Bahrt and Associates LLC's breaches of the exclusive purchase agreements with Wrangell Seafoods created severe hardships over the last 18 months for both the employees of Wrangell Seafoods and the entire community of Wrangell."
