Blumar acquires Chilean fishmeal and fish oil producer Pesquera Bahía Caldera

Blumar Seafoods (Salmones Blumar SA) has acquired the remaining shares of Pesquera Bahía Caldera, a Caldera, Chile-based company specializing in the production of fishmeal and fish oil.

Blumar and its subsidiary, Pacificblu, previously owned 60 percent of the company, and purchased the remaining 40 percent from Sociedad de Inversiones Kipper Ltda. on 3 October for USD 5 million (EUR 4.3 million), according to Estrategia.

Headquartered in Puerto Montt, Chile, Blumar's primary business is salmon farming. It earned 4-star BAP recognition for its salmon farming operations in Chile, meaning 100 percent of its salmon production – across processing plants, farms, hatcheries, and feed mills – aligns with BAP aquaculture standards.

Blumar’s primary motivation for purchasing Pesquera Bahía Caldera was to secure complete control of a source of fishmeal and fish oil that was locally caught in Chile by an artisanal fleet, the company said, according to Estrategia.
