New Year's resolutions for your marketing department

As if learning French, adopting a greyhound and losing 15 lbs. and wasn’t enough, why not pile on some work-related New Year’s Resolutions?    Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1.  Commit to communicating daily! Whether you’re posting to your blog, sending out a newsletter or tweeting, resolve to do something to touch your customers every single day. Make it a habit! Experts agree that by making your New Years resolutions specific and actionable you improve your chances of actually keeping them.

2.  Try something new. The excitement of a new year can easily translate into the energy you need to get out of your comfort zone. If you’ve been hesitant to try making a video or to exhibit at a trade show, now’s the perfect time to go for it! At the same time, be realistic; the experts also agree that this is a way to ensure you actually follow through. Set a challenging goal – just don’t make it too challenging!

3.   Volunteer more. In fact, why not go ahead and make this one a company-wide resolution! And then go public with it…this will help make sure you actually keep it! What a great campaign to start off 2010 – with your entire staff resolving to volunteer to do an Ocean Conservancy beach-clean up or a Habitat for Humanity project.

4.  Find at least one new FREE resource on the internet that will help you meet or announce your resolutions.  We just tried out USTREAM and are already planning to use it for an in-house training session the first week in January.  Talk about being on the ball!  We’ll see you there…
