The U.S., which ranks behind Russia as China’s top source of seafood imports, shipped 530,000 tons in 2015, worth USD 1.2 billion (EUR 1.06 billion), down 10.05 percent in volume and 7.58 percent in value from the year prior. Only Chile (down 16.2 percent in volume, 18 percent in value) saw a sharper drop in seafood sales to China.

Canada, meanwhile, increased its seafood exports to China in 2015 by 11.6 percent in volume (to 94,000 tons) and 18.5 percent in value terms, to USD 553 million (EUR 490 million).

The slump in growth for U.S. seafood shipments is a big turnaround from 2014, when China grew its volumes from the U.S. by 2.16 percent to 5.82 million tons worth USD 3.39 billion (EUR 3 billion), up 6.18 percent year-on-year.
