Pesquera Diamante completes USD 2 million retrofit of fishing boat

Pesquera Diamante, Peru's third-largest fishing company, recently unveiled a high-tech fishing boat, retrofitted at a cost of USD 2 million (EUR 1.6 million) to harvest fish for human consumption.

Pesquera Diamante has been in existence for 30 years and is a major supplier of anchoveta to the fish meal market. The company, which earns around USD 200 million (EUR 161.9 million) annually, is making investments with a view to becoming a supplier of anchovy for human consumption as well.

The boat, which was remodeled at the company's Ferroles de Pesquera Diamante shipyard, was expanded to a length of 47 meters and its holding capacity increased to 450 cubic metres, the company said in a press release.

“This remodeling will improve the buoyancy of the boat, the navigation conditions and the safety of our personnel,” Pesquera Diamante said in its release.

The vessel is one of 14 vessels in the Pesquera Diamante fleet with a permit to capture fish for direct human consumption. The boat, named the “Daniella,” is now equipped with insulated warehouses and a refrigerated sea-water preservation system, to facilitate the company's capture and processing of anchovy, horse mackerel, and mackerel in a manner that meets national and international market standards, the press release said.

"We at Pesquera Diamante are proud to launch the boat 'Daniella' into the sea. After a process of reconstruction and modernization, carried out in our Shipyard Ferroles, the boat today has better characteristics for a safe navigation, with comfortable environments for the crew, with state-of-the-art equipment, with insulated warehouses and with a refrigeration system that ensures fishing products are kept in excellent conditions,” company director Fernando Ribaudo said during the launch and blessing event.
