Icelandic seafood company HB Grandi is to enter into negotiations with the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Armon Gijon, S.A. for the construction of a new freezer trawler following an open invitation process.

The cost of construction is around ISK 5 billion (USD 47 million, EUR 43 million) and according to the proposed contract, the trawler will be delivered in 2019.

Designed by Rolls Royce in Norway, the new trawler will be 81 meters in length, have a 17-meter beam and a hold capacity of 1,000 metric tons (MT) of frozen products.

HB Grandi currently owns and runs three freezer trawlers built between 1988 and 1992, four wet fish trawlers and two pelagic vessels.
