Global Seas gets ready for the B-season in Alaska

Alaska's winter and early spring Bering Sea fisheries enjoyed a slight reprieve from the onslaught of the COVID-19 crisis.

In an interview with National Fisherman, Global Seas and Nina Fisheries founder and CEO Bob Desautel discussed the upcoming B-season for Alaska pollock.

"[It’s] a big part of our business out of Alaska," Desautel said. "We're just tracking all the regulations that everybody's asked us to abide by … Obviously we want to keep all of our vessels, and all of the people and the industry safe, for that matter."

National Fisherman talked with Desautel about how the company fared in Alaska's pollock A-season, what challenges they faced in quarantine, what they're doing differently for the upcoming B-season, and how many staff they're managing in Alaska this summer.

Desautel also discussed company's East Coast processing plant, as well as what is happening in global pollock markets, in light of the coronavirus crisis.
