Aker Seafoods Faces Partial Closure

Aker Seafoods, one of Norway's largest seafood processors, yesterday shut down parts of its plant in Norland after repeated hygiene complaints from officials at state food inspector Mattilsynet.

Inspectors charged that improvements regarding sanitation in food preparation areas had not been carried out.

Aker officials pre-empted a closure order by closing the affected portions of the plant itself.

The facility produces a wide variety of frozen fish products for retail and foodservice customers and delivers fresh and frozen filets to retail outlets and fish-processing facilities.
