Albion Fisheries gets BAP certification

Western Canada’s largest seafood distributor has earned the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA)’s best aquaculture practices (BAP) certification, according to a statement from the GAA.

Albion Fisheries has received the certification for its 65,000-square-foot processing plant in British Columbia, Canada. It is the first full-line seafood distributor in Canada to get the BAP certification.

“Albion is focused on continuous improvement, and BAP is another step in this very important journey,” said John K. Milobar, president of Albion Fisheries. “It allows our customers to feel confident that we have followed an audited protocol regarding food safety and traceability and should provide comfort in knowing their product has met all of the BAP standards.”

Albion sells its seafood products, including salmon, hand-peeled shrimp meat and crabmeat, primarily to retail and foodservice customers in British Columbia and Alberta.
