Cooke salmon farm earns BAP nod

Cooke Aquaculture has been awarded the Global Aquaculture Alliance's Best Aquaculture Practices certification for its salmon farms in Chile.

Cooke's subsidiary, Salmones Cupquelan, produces salmon at its farms in Chile under the Heritage Salmon brand.

Cooke said the certification is just the most recent sign of its commitment to the environment. The company noted in 2008 its New Brunswick-based North American freshwater division also earned the Seafood Trust Eco Label. A year later, Cooke was the first aquaculture company in Canada to sell Certified Eco Label farmed Atlantic salmon in North America.

“The marine resources in which Cooke Aquaculture operates are vital to the company’s success now and in the future,” said the company in a statement.
