DuPont introduces portable shrimp pathogen detector

DuPont Animal Health Solutions today announced a new shrimp-pathogen detection product line.

The DuPontTM Virkon Aquatic Biosecurity Monitoring System provides a solution for pond-site diagnostic testing for shrimp viruses.

Thailand was the first country to launch the test kit.

The system includes the Virkon® Aquatic White Spot Syndrome Virus portable test kit designed for pathogens affecting the farmed shrimp industry.

The Virkon® Aquatic test detects viruses early in the production cycle, allowing farmers to respond faster to potential viral outbreaks. Depending on sample size, test results can be obtained in less than two hours, while traditional methods take days.

"DuPontTM Virkon® Aquatic Biosecurity Monitoring System presents shrimp farmers with a faster and improved solution for early white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) detection in their ponds," said Paolo Barbieri, global business director for DuPont's clean and disinfect division. "With this offering in place, DuPont can help shrimp farmers monitor and improve biosecurity measures, making it a valuable addition in the Virkon® Aquatic product line."

DuPont is a science-based products and services company operating in more than 70 countries.
