Non-governmental organization European Fishmeal and Fish Oil Producers (EFFOP) has elected a new president after its sitting president stepped down.

FF Skagen CEO Johannes Pallsson served as president of EFFOP for seven years before stepping down during the organization’s annual meeting on 23 September. In his place, Ireland-based Pelagia Killybegs General Manager Frank Trearty, the former vice president of EFFOP, was elected to the position of president.

“Johannes has done a great job taking the association [to] where it is today,” Trearty said. “We as an industry have a great benefit in cooperating in the European Fishmeal association. As we are looking into a great number of emerging challenges, the need for strong cooperation and effective secretariat is even greater in the future.”

EFFOP represents fishmeal and fish oil producers from 10 different European countries with a combined production value of over EUR 1 billion (USD 1.2 billion) a year. The organization advocates on behalf of the industry to the European Commission, European Council, and European Parliament.

In addition to Trearty being elected president, Garðar Svavarsson – the board’s Icelandic representative representing Icelandic fishmeal and fish oil producers – was elected to the vacant vice president position.
