The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) has created a new fund for financing new projects to improve responsible aquaculture and make certified seafood production more available worldwide.

GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens announced the new fund today at the first day of the SeaWeb Seafood Summit in New Orleans, La., USA.

The GAA has not yet named the new fund, but has started it with USD 250,000 (EUR 220,805), and has invited stakeholders to contribute.

In a statement, the GAA said its development director, Iain Shone and its best aquaculture practices standards coordinator Dan Lee, along with Matt Thompson, aquaculture project lead at the New England Aquarium, will manage the fund.
