Leading Chinese university aims for global training role in crayfish aquaculture

An expertise in crayfish is drawing international students to study at the oldest aquaculture academy in China.

The aquaculture school at prestigious Hua Zhong University in the central Chinese city of Wuhan has recently made waves in Chinese media for its international students from Pakistan coming to study under crayfish expert Gu Ze Mao. Mao has been lionized in state media as a global authority on crayfish and a reason for the explosion in aquaculture incomes as fish farmers shift from fish like carp to crayfish.

A recent profile of the university in the Chinese government-run Jiao Shi Bao (Education Times) prominently features Mao and suggests that Huazhong could become a mecca for aquaculture research, drawing researchers and students from around the world.
