Mass mortality for Marine Harvest Chile

Marine Harvest has experienced a severe algae bloom at its Chilean operations in Region X, the salmon farming giant has confirmed.

In a statement, the Norwegian-headquartered group said approximately 1.2 million fish have suffered mortality so far.

Three of its seawater sites have been affected: Punta Redonda, Huar Sur and Huar Norte. It had stocked 2.9 million fish at these sites and the average live weight ranged from 1.5 kg to 2.5 kg.
