National Prawn Co., university ink deal

National Prawn Co. (NPC) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have signed a memorandum of understanding that will lead to a variety of aquaculture research projects.

Areas of cooperation will include shrimp genome research, shrimp disease research, and research on the impacts of aquaculture and agriculture on the Red Sea.

KAUST will provide collaborative research opportunities through its respective research centers, while NPC will provide and share its experience in various fields coordinated through its business development team, which will also oversee and manage project execution.

The agreement is in line with NPC’s commitment to developing Saudi Arabia’s aquaculture industry and aims to intensify association with academic and scientific institutions.

“Today’s agreement with NPC strongly complements our research agenda in sustainable food production, incorporating the holistic cycle of aquaculture and agriculture,” said Choon Fong Shih, KAUST president. “This endeavor will also benefit significantly from the work of our Red Sea Research Center.
