Three aquaculture companies have permission to expand mussel farms in Pelorus Sound.
Marlborough District Council hearings commissioner Richard Fowler has allowed Talley’s Group to build a 39-meter seaward extension on an existing mussel farm. That would increase the area of the farm to 7 hectares from about 5.5 hectares.
Fowler also approved Clearwater Mussels’ application to extend a 6-hectare mussel farm at Beatrix Bay to 10ha. Talley’s owns 50 percent of the company.
