Redox wins Aqua Nor innovation prize

Redox AS beat out two finalists and 16 candidates to capture the innovation prize at the biennial Aqua Nor aquaculture trade show in Trondheim, Norway, this week.

The Averøy, Norway, company developed a water treatment solution for fish tanks aboard shipping vessels. The firm was awarded a NOK 100,000 (USD 16,586, EUR 11,643) check by Norwegian Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Minister Helga Pedersen.

“Reducing this risk is consequently of the utmost importance for developing a sustainable aquaculture industry,” said Peter Gullestad, chairman of show organizer Nor-Fishing Foundation, during the awards ceremony. “The winner has developed a comprehensive system for quality control in all functions relevant for bio-security when transporting fish in well boats.”

The other two finalists were TelCage AS of Trondheim and Stranda Prolog AS on behalf of Seafood Innovations Ltd. of Sheldon, Australia. Seventeen companies participated in the competition, twice as many as ever.

The judges were Kjell Maroni and Berit Hansen, both of the Norwegian Seafood Association, and Viggo Andreassen of Innovation Norway.
