Norwegian land-based aquaculture company Salmon Evolution continued to see operational improvements in Q2 2025.
The company said it harvested 1,232 metric tons (MT) of salmon in Q2 2025, lower than the total it harvested in Q2 2024. Salmon Evolution said harvest weights improved over Q1 2025, and that the lower harvest was expected and caused by smolt issues it dealt with in H1 2024.
Price realization for its salmon reached NOK 72 (USD 7.14, EUR 6.08) per kilogram of salmon, which it said was impacted by the timing of the harvests and fluctuations in spot prices.
While the harvests were lower in Q2 2025, its overall standing biomass and biomass production were both positive, the company said.
“Salmon Evolution continues to see stable operations across the farm and enters Q3 with a fully stocked farm and a good biomass composition, boding well for continued positive development in operational KPIs and harvest weights over the coming quarters,” Salmon Evolution CEO Trond Håkon Schaug-Pettersen said.
The company said its standing biomass as of the end of Q2 2025 reached 3,043 MT live weight, with the composition of salmon in line with its run-rate target both in volume and in terms of the number of individual salmon in the tank. The company said it also had 1,604 MT of biomass production, following a precautionary pause in feeding while blasting activities took place for the company’s phase 2 of construction, which reduced growth by roughly 100 MT.
The company also said the underperforming groups connected with the poor smolt are now fully harvested, and that those smolt were a significant portion of the biomass growth in Q2 2025.
The company said its biomass composition fully normalized during Q2 2025 as it moved past the smolt quality issues, adding that the issues lead to “valuable lessons learned” and that it now has an overcapacity of smolt secured through 2025.
“The additional tank capacity planned as part of phase 2 will further mitigate risk, by always having smolt available for stocking,” Salmon Evolution said.
The company said it plans to release its full Q2 2025 results in August.
