SalmonChile names new CEO

SalmonChile announced on Wednesday that Odebret Carlos Beyer was named CEO of the industry group.

Beyer, who represents Region X on the SalmonChile board, replaces managing director Rodrigo Varas Infante, who's been with the group for more than 20 years. Infante will continue to serve as an advisor.

SalmonChile also unveiled that it is moving its headquarters from Santiago to Puerto Montt, the country's salmon-farming capital. The Santiago office will remain open as a representative office.

In a press release, SalmonChile said the country's farmed salmon industry faces numerous challenges, particularly the battle against the infectious salmon anemia virus, which has curbed production and forced companies to lay off workers.

The group said it is changing to its production model and working to improve the employment situation by creating a network of social support to dismissed workers.
