Skuna Bay processor gets BAP certification

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) has granted its Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification to a salmon supplier for Skuna Bay, according to a GAA release.

Walcan Seafood, the British Columbia, Canada-based exclusive processor of Skuna Bay’s farmed salmon, earned the BAP certification on 2 July, the GAA said. Four of Skuna Bay’s salmon farms also earned the certification in December 2011.

“We have always said that we are committed to meeting and upholding the best aquaculture practices standards in all Skuna Bay Salmon,” said Dave Mergle, director of Skuna Bay Salmon. “Having our processor join us in this accomplishment by becoming BAP certified is remarkable and demonstrates our commitment to the highest standards.”
