–The International Coalition of Fisheries Associations (ICFA) has elected Ivan López Van der Veen to the role of chairperson. López is currently the Vice President of the Spanish Confederation of Fisheries (CEPESCA), the General Manager of Pesquera Ancora, Chairman of the EU’s Long Distance Advisory Council, and leads the European Bottom Fishing Alliance (EBFA).

“It is an honor to have been chosen to lead this incredible organization,” López said. “I have a firm commitment to advancing ICFA’s mission and ensuring a sustainable future for our industry worldwide. By working together, we can meet the challenges ahead and continue to provide essential contributions to global nutrition and livelihoods.”

The appointment was announced and formalized during the recent ICFA General Assembly in Rome, at which members discussed global challenges facing their fisheries, including decarbonization, climate change, food security, and combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

–General Manager of Communications and Marketing for Seafood New Zealand Fiona MacMillan was named Chair of the Global Seafood Communicators (GSC) at the same meeting. The role of the GSC is to shape public understanding of the industry’s contributions to sustainable food systems.

“The seafood industry is increasingly recognized for its importance to global food security and as a source of healthy and sustainable protein," MacMillan said. "I look forward to collaborating with communicators from around the world to share the positive stories of our sector and amplify the voice of seafood as a solution to many global challenges.”

–Australian salmon farmer Huon Aquaculture Group has announced Craig Selkirk as its new special projects manager. Selkirk is a forty-year veteran of the salmon farming industry who brings previous management experience from Tassal, Aquatas, and Mowi.

"Lots of exciting things happening at Huon, and I’m thrilled to be part of it," Selkirk said in a 12 November LinkedIn post.
