Reston, Virginia, U.S.A.-based International Coalition of Fisheries Associations (ICFA) has launched a Seafood Nutrition Toolkit, a resource for members globally to use when they are communicating the nutritional benefits of seafood to the public.
IFCA is a coalition of fish and seafood industry associations from around the world. The group worked together with Global Seafood Communicators (GSC) to develop the toolkit and address the challenge of effectively communicating unified messaging about seafood’s nutritional benefits to a variety of audiences.
“The toolkit aims to bring the global seafood community together and use unified messaging to combat misinformation and promote seafood’s health benefits,” GSC Chair Fiona MacMillan said. “The materials on ICFA’s website are available to those who want to join our efforts to promote the consumption of such a healthy protein.”
The toolkit’s information is science-backed, stemming from an academic review which studied 21 areas of health benefits seafood offers, including cardiovascular health, mental health, maternal health, fertility, cancer prevention, cognitive health, and healthy aging.
“No one is going to tell our story if we don’t tell it,” National Fisheries Institute President and CEO Lisa Wallenda Picard said of GSC's work at a panel on cross-industry collaborations between seafood organizations at the 2025 Seafood Expo North America, held 15 to 17 March in Boston, Massachusetts. “We can share information, but we also have the same victories – nutrition being the prime example. We’ve got to keep telling the good news of seafood."
