Harare, Zimbabwe-based Lake Harvest Group has appointed Atle Eide as chairman of its board of directors.

Lake Harvest Group is one of the largest integrated aquaculture companies in Sub-Saharan Africa. It recently received USD 7 million (EUR 6.1 million) in new funding it said will be dedicated to augmenting its tilapia-farming operations in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Uganda.

“We are very pleased and proud that Atle, who is a globally recognized leader in the aquaculture sector, is joining Lake Harvest,” Lake Harvest CEO James de la Fargue said. “With his dedication, knowledge, and experience, we are convinced that Atle will make a strong contribution to the future success of Lake Harvest.”

Eide has held the chief executive officer position at several major seafood companies, including Marine Harvest (now Mowi), Skretting Nordic, Hydro Seafood, and Kverneland Group. Most recently, Eide served as chairman of the board of Salmar, until stepping down in May 2021. Eide remains chairman of the board of Scale AQ and SalmarAkerOcean, and is also a board member of the Norwegian Seafood Federation, Benchmark Holding, and Kontali.

“I believe in the purpose of Lake Harvest and am strongly motivated to contribute to the development of sustainable aquaculture in Africa,” Eide said. “I look forward to working with the Lake Harvest team, the other board members and the shareholders Aqua-Spark, Norfund, and African Century Group.”

In October 2020, Lake Harvest signed a five-year broodfish supply agreement with Benchmark Holding’s subsidiary Spring Genetics that gives the commercial aquaculture company exclusive access to tilapia species with improved resistance to diseases and superior performance traits.
