Maine Coast makes hires for three new executive positions

York, Maine-based Maine Coast, a worldwide distributor of North American lobster, announced new hires to three executive positions in December.

The company, which logged more than USD 55 million (EUR 45.7 million) in revenue in 2016, named Sheila Adams as the company’s new vice president of sales and marketing, and promoted Michael Delahanty to chief financial officer and Peter Brent to be its vice president of operations.

Adams, the wife of Maine Coast CEO Tom Adams, previously worked at ExactTarget and Gigya and has more than 25 years of sales, marketing, and management experience. Adams will oversee global sales and marketing operations with a focus on customer growth, new market development, and brand awareness, the company said.

"Finding a way to bring my experience from Silicon Valley back home to our family business has been one of my personal goals,” Adams said. “Maine Coast is a company with great impact on both our local community in York, and the state of Maine. They have built a great team that delivered incredible growth over the past few years. I am honored to partner with them to take Maine Coast to the next level."

Tom Adams said he moved to hire Sheila Adams as he “felt this current stage of growth called for investment in executive leadership to support his dedicated sales and marketing team.” Maine Coast has grown 125 percent over the past three years, earning it a place in the Inc. 5,000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States.

"Sheila has been a part of the Maine Coast family from the early days of planning for the company launch. We have long considered how to leverage her experience to benefit the company. I am incredibly proud to have her join the company as we grow and continue to deliver positive impact in our local community and the lobster industry,” Tom Adams said.

Delahanty joined Maine Coast as its corporate controller in 2015, helping to establish the firm’s financial planning and administrative management systems.  Prior to Maine Coast, he served as regional controller and manager of financial planning and analysis at IDEXX Laboratories. Brent started at Maine Coast in 2013, overseeing portions of the company’s operations and logistics.

"Peter and Michael have been instrumental helping manage our growth,” Tom Adams said. “They continue building great teams to ensure quality is the priority at every stage of our business. I look forward to having them join the executive team bringing their knowledge, insights, and helping us set the key strategies needed to continue our growth."

The company also recently announced it has become the first partnership in the state of Maine to integrate direct primary care into its employer-sponsored benefits package.

Maine Coast is partnering with  Independent Health Advantage, a direct primary care medical practice also located in York, Maine, to offer its employees access to local physician Dr. Peter Sacchetti.

Adams said he the new plan benefit will help with employee health and retention, improving employee engagement, safety and wellness, and job satisfaction.

“By adding direct primary care to our employee benefits package, we are working toward creating a unique company culture at Maine Coast – and increased employee health is part of that culture. This enhanced benefits package will help attract and retain valuable team members and produce healthier, more productive employees, which ultimately affects my bottom line,” Adams said.
