New Long John Silver's exec to expand grilled seafood menu

Long John Silver’s new chief operating officer will play a significant role in expanding the restaurant chain’s grilled menu items in 2019, according to the company.

The Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.A.-based operator of nearly 1,000 restaurants hired 25-year restaurant veteran Blain Shortreed, who will oversee internal company operator and restaurant development and lead franchise operations as LJS’s new COO.

“Long John Silver’s is continuing the process of innovation and sharing our story with loyal customers,” LJS CEO James O’Reilly said in a press release. “Blain is a veteran in the quick-service restaurant industry and we know he’ll be an asset to our brand as we continue to evolve.”

Blain previously served as managing director of Pizza Hut’s Middle East/North Africa business. Before that, he was vice president of operations for Pizza Hut USA.

“Long John Silver’s has been a brand to watch over the last decade and the growth they’ve achieved is remarkable,” Shortreed said. “The executive team is steering the brand towards continued success and I look forward to becoming a part of their growth and innovation.”

In March, LJS opened a flagship restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky, featuring its new modern design. The flagship eatery features LJS’s Grilled Seafood Menu, which includes grilled fish tacos and grilled salmon bowls paired with long grain rice.

“Long John Silver’s is currently planning a significant expansion of grilled menu items in 2019, in which Shortreed will play a critical role,” the restaurant chain said.
