De Heus Animal Nutrition has opened a new aquaculture feed mill in Vinh Long Province, Vietnam.
According to De Heus, the new facility is designed to have a production capacity of up to 168,000 metric tons (MT) of feed a year and is specifically dedicated to marine and coldwater fish species. The company said its focus on coldwater and marine fish is a first for the company and is part of a long-term commitment to sustainable aquaculture.
“This investment reflects De Heus' long-term commitment to marine and coldwater aquaculture,” De Heus Vietnam and Asia CEO Johan van den Ban said in a release. “Through specialized nutrition solutions and modern production technology, we aim to help farmers improve performance, enhance product quality, and contribute to a more sustainable aquaculture value chain.”
De Heus said the facility has been equipped with advanced technology sourced from both Europe and the U.S. and will be operated according to Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Best Aquaculture Practices standards, as well as to ISO 22,000.
The company said the facility was built in response to growing demand for aquaculture feed for marine and coldwater species like barramundi and sea bass, which offer “significant opportunities for sustainable growth and value creation.”
“The new mill enables De Heus to serve this growing segment with specialized nutritional solutions tailored to the needs of high-value aquaculture species,” the company said.
De Heus also said the new facility has been developed with sustainability in mind from the bottom up and will allow for greater use of raw materials while also reducing energy consumption.
“The new facility reflects De Heus' ongoing investment in innovation, sustainability, and farmer success,” the company said. “By expanding its specialized feed production capabilities, De Heus continues to support the development of efficient and responsible aquaculture systems while helping meet the growing global demand for high-quality seafood.”
De Heus has teamed up with aquaculture companies in Vietnam in the past. For instance, it announced a partnership in 2025 with Minh Phu Seafood. The two companies said they would collaborate on technology transfer and research and development programs.
