Thai Union Frozen Products (TUF), one of the largest seafood suppliers in Thailand and the world, has dumped a company that supplies fish to it less than 24 hours after the Associated Press (AP) released a report linking a TUF supplier to human trafficking in the Thai and Indonesian fishing industries.
According to the AP, Thai Union said in a statement that it has “terminated” its relationship with the supplier.
Thai Union did not name the supplier, but the original AP report, which probed the issue of human slavery in the seafood supply chain, linked fish coming from trawlers employing slaves to Niwat Co., a supplier operating in Thailand that delivered product to Thai Union Manufacturing Co., a subsidiary of TUF.
“Thai Union embraces AP’s finding,” TUF said in a statement, the AP reported.
