Brim scoops environmental award

Icelandic fisheries company Brim was the recipient of this year’s Environmental Company of the Year award, given at the country’s Environmental Awards, an annual ceremony marking Icelandic Industry's Environmental Day.

The accolade, presented by the President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, was in recognition of Brim’s efforts to address environmental issues, including its work to map its impact and responsibilities.

The company has adopted targets and metrics to measure performance, reduce waste and increase value. It has invested in new technology and vessels, and continues to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

“All of us at Brim are grateful for this recognition, which fills us with satisfaction and pride,” Guðmundur Kristjánsson, CEO of Brim, said while receiving the award in Harpa. “Respect for nature has been our guiding principle and we see that the emphasis on environmental issues and sustainability results in increased profitability and major benefits for society as a whole. We intend to continue along the same path. The Environmental Award is an incentive to do even better."
