Dyhrberg shrimp gets FOS certification

Switzerland seafood company Dyhrberg’s Krista Top Seafood brand black tiger shrimp has been certified as Friend of the Sea sustainable, according to an announcement form Friend of the Sea.

Friend of the Sea label surely represents an important added value for our products,” said Dyhrberg CEO Peter Hirschi. “And we are glad to be able to offer such a plus to our more and more demanding customers.”

Dyhrberg has been operating in Switzerland since the early 1960s, and currently produces its black tiger shrimp at certified sustainable Vietnamese aquaculture sites.

Friend of the Sea, an international nonprofit, issued its certification after a third party audited Dyhrberg’s operations to look for aquaculture practices that don’t hurt the environment, use antifoulants, GMOs or growth hormones.

Dyhrberg’s farms, according to Friend of the Sea, do not use antibiotics or chemicals, and manage water, waste and energy systems well. The shrimp are harvested by hand, which reduces the chance of escapes.
