The Marine Stewardship Council has awarded Henry and Lisa Lovejoy, the founders of EcoFish, a 2021 MSC U.S. Ocean Championship award.
The award recognizes MSC partners that demonstrate leadership on sustainability “above and beyond the MSC fisheries or chain of custody standards,” the MSC said. EcoFish’s Henry & Lisa’s Natural Seafood and Freshé brands both carry the MSC label, and products from the brands are currently sold in over 4,500 stores in the U.S., the MSC said. EcoFish was the first seafood supplier in the U.S. to obtain MSC chain of custody certification and has been an MSC partner for 20 years.
“The MSC U.S. Ocean Champion Award is an opportunity to reflect and appreciate the hard work of our partners in supporting sustainable fisheries and a healthy ocean,” MSC U.S. Program Director Eric Critchlow said. “EcoFish’s 20-year partnership with the MSC, commitment to ecolabeling their products and efforts to educate [its] customers about the importance of certified sustainable seafood is a testament to their hard work. We are honored to bestow the Ocean Champion Award and title upon them.”
EcoFish was chosen for the Ocean Champion award for its leadership in sourcing sustainable seafood, MSC said. The company joins two others that received 2021 MSC U.S. Ocean Champion awards that have yet to be named by MSC. Past winners of the award include Vital Choice, Bar Harbor Foods, and Trans-Ocean Products Inc.
