Egersund Net receives GlobalGAP recognition

AKVA Group ASA subsidiary Egersund Net – which AKVA acquired in 2018 – and its seven service stations along the Norwegian coast have been found in compliance with applicable requirements in the GlobalG.A.P. aquaculture standard, the company has confirmed.

In a press release, the aquaculture net and services provider stated that it has reviewed its management systems, processes, and best practices against the GlobalG.A.P. aquaculture standard.

It worked with certification body Kolos Aqua to meet the requirements.

“This is part of a continuous improvement process, and we do it for both ourselves and not least for our customers. The letter of compliance shows that the company puts welfare for employees, fish, and respect for nature at the forefront,” Egersund Net General Manager Glenn Mo said. “It was a demanding audit but with a good collaboration we succeeded and reached our targets.”

Mo said the recognition also benefits customers by ensuring them the seafood they are buying is responsibly produced.

“Fish farmers are connected to markets where they can sell their safe and sustainably produced products,” Mo said. “Consumers are told that the food they eat is produced in a sustainable and safe way, knowing that animal welfare and employee welfare is taken care of – as well as the respect for nature.”

Earlier this month, AKVA Group announced it had reached an agreement with SinkabergHansen AS to sell it all its shares in Atlantis Subsea Farming AS (ASF). The sale of its 33.33 percent stake in ASF will see it pocket NOK 35 million (USD 3.9 million, EUR 3.5 million) in profit.

ASF was assigned a development license from the Directorate of Fisheries in 2018 for a new submersible cage concept for largescale salmon production. The directorate has now decided that the development license can be converted to an ordinary operating license.

As part of the transaction, AKVA will own the technology developed in the ASF project.

Salmon company Sinkaberg-Hansen and Egersund Net were also partners in the venture.
