Mowi USA will host a daylong workshop on ocean sustainability issues as part of a celebration of the One Ocean Expedition’s visit to Miami, Florida, U.S.A. on Wednesday, 8 December.
The U.S. branch of the Bergen, Norway-headquartered salmon-farming firm will feature keynote addresses by Tidal/X Chief Product Officer Bala Kasiviswanathan, WWF-U.S. Global Network Lead for Aquaculture Aaron McNevin, University of Miami Director of Aquaculture Daniel Dominguez Benetti, and Mowi USA Managing Director Joe Fidalgo. Collectively, they will address the role of blue foods in feeding a growing global population, and innovation, sustainability, governance, and partnerships in aquaculture.
A roundtable with former Mowi CEO and current Norwegian University of Life Sciences Lecturer Alf-Helge Aarskog, FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Market Expert Emily de Sousa, IMR Digital Director Bjørn A. Sætren, Global Seafood Alliance Program Integrity Advisor Jeff Peterson, and Bellona Senior Advisor for Aquaculture Silje Båtsvik Risholm will take place after the keynote addresses.
The event will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Eastern time and can be streamed live online through Vimeo.
The One Ocean Expedition, a 55,000-mile circumnavigation of the globe by the sailing vessel Statsraad Lehmkuhl, seeks to share knowledge and draw attention to the ocean’s role in a sustainable global future. The ship is visiting 30 ports as part of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
The ship’s journey began in Bergen, Norway, in August 2021 and will end there in April 2023. Along the way, it will provide real-time data, videos, and stories “to inspire and engage not only scientists but everyone who is interested in ocean-based action towards sustainable development around the world.”
