Sobey’s highlights B.C. wild salmon

Sobey’s on Tuesday announced that it has launched a series of videos highlighting the challenges facing British Columbia’s salmon fisheries.

The videos include interviews with individuals from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Simon Fraser University, David Suzuki Foundation, Watershed Watch Salmon Society and suppliers and fishermen, who discuss the improvements being made to British Columbia’s salmon fisheries.

The Canadian retailer produced the series to educate Canadian consumers on the complexity associated with seafood sustainability; to build awareness on the effort to preserve the province’s wild salmon populations, including Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Wild Salmon Policy; and to encourage the implementation of fisheries management improvements.

The series consists of two introduction videos and five 5-minute segments: Part 1, a new perspective on sustainably managing wild British Columbia salmon; Part 2, sustainably managing wild British Columbia salmon; Part 3, the path forward, the Canadian wild salmon policy; Part 4, challenges implementing the Canadian wild salmon policy; Part 5, sustainability for fishermen means economic sustainability too, traceability as the new frontier.
