The Fishin’ Company, a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based producer, importer and distributor frozen seafood to U.S. retail and foodservice customers, has hired Murali Krishna Bujji as its new director of supply chain integrity.
Bujji is the former program integrity manager for the Global Aquaculture Alliance. He will work with The Fishin’ Company’s global sourcing team, in-country auditors, supply partners and other members of its supply chain to “further advance the company’s sustainability commitments and to continue its momentum in building a strong supply of 4-star BAP product,” according to a press release.
“We feel incredibly fortunate to add an individual of such caliber as Murali,” Fishin’ Company CEO Manish Kumar said. “With this key addition to our team, we have the opportunity and ability to take another step forward in sustainability to drive positive change in the industry.”
Bujji has 20 years of experience in aquaculture, certification schemes and auditing. He has worked for 10 years on aquaculture farms, performing technical services for farms, hatchery and feed operations and in seafood processing facilities, and has 10 years of international experience in auditing, food safety certification, accreditation on sustainability and food safety standards and training on HACCP food safety and sustainability standards. Bujji has a bachelor of fisheries science degree in aquaculture and oceanography from the College of Fisheries, Mangalore at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
“I am happy to be associated with The Fishin’ Company, a progressive organization in the seafood industry. With the seafood industry valued at around USD 140 billion (EUR 123 billion) and growing, opportunities are plenty. At the same time, we have challenges on sustainability, authenticity, food safety and traceability along the supply chain,” Bujji said. “We are excited to work to overcome this and be change agents, which is at the core of our business at Fishin’ [Company].”
