WWF joins up with GSSI

The Global Seafood Sustainability Initiative (GSSI) has added the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to its list of partner organizations and companies.

The GSSI formed to create a benchmarking tool to help guide sustainability programs in the future. A number of organizations, such as the Marine Stewardship Council, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute and Friends of the Sea have created assessment programs to ensure that seafood is being produced sustainably.

A number of organizations and private seafood industry companies have thrown their support behind GSSI, including the New England Aquarium, the Marine Conservation society, Darden Restaurants and Pacific Seafood.

Now, the GSSI has confirmed that the WWF has also joined as a partner organization. Jason Clay, WWF´s senior VP of market transformation, has joined the GSSI's steering board, and the WWF's Piers Hart sits on the GSSI aquaculture expert working group.
