Ipswich Shellfish Founder Pappas Dies

George Pappas, founder and owner of Ipswich Shellfish Co., died Saturday at the age of 94 after a short illness.

Pappas, of Ipswich, Mass., founded the seafood company 72 years ago and also owned Connecticut Shellfish, United Shellfish and two companies of Maine Shellfish.

Pappas graduated from Boston University and was a member of the Jewish Rotary Club and former president of the Greek Orthodox Church Council in Ipswich. He is survived by his wife, Chrissi Pappas, three children and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday in Ipswich. Contributions in Pappas' name may be made to The Philoxenia House, c/o Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Ipswich.
