Microwaveable fish nabs AHA approval

The Beacon Light® Steam Series of retail seafood in microwaveable pouches earned the approval of the American Heart Association (AHA).

The AHA-approved Steam Series seafood line includes cod, haddock and tilapia produced by Sea Star Seafood Corp. of Marlborough, Mass. The products uses a venting pouch technology that steam-cooks frozen fillets in less than 5 minutes.

"Our associates have worked diligently to develop a quality product worthy of bearing the American Heart Association logo.  We are proud to announce our great-tasting, convenient and heart-healthy offering surpasses all guidelines necessary to meet AHA certification criteria," said Sea Star Seafood President James Faro.

The two 6-ounce portions of fish, which retail for USD 6.99, boast only 140-170 calories per serving with no added salt, oils or fats. The Beacon Light® Steam Series line of microwaveable seafood products is now available throughout North America, both in Canada as well as more than 50 retailers in 27 U.S. States.
