Slade Gorton earns SQFI certification

Slade Gorton & Co. of Boston on Wednesday announced that it was awarded a level-3 certification from the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI).

The SQFI program provides independent certification that food-safety and quality-management systems comply with international and domestic regulations.

The certification assures customers that Slade Gorton’s seafood products have been sourced, processed, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards throughout the supply chain.

The SQFI food-safety and quality program is the only such program recognized by the Global Food Safety Imitative (GFSI), headquartered in Paris.

“This certification serves to enhance our leadership position in the industry and support our mission to provide wholesome, safe and high quality seafood to America’s table,” said Kim Gorton, Slade Gorton president and CEO. “We work hard to earn our customers’ business and instill the confidence in them that we will provide the highest level of service and quality.”

Slade Gorton is one of the United States’ oldest and largest family-owned seafood companies, importing, manufacturing and distributing seafood to retailers, distributors and wholesalers nationwide. The company sold more than 100 million pounds of seafood last year and has more than 300 employees in Massachusetts, Florida, California, Illinois and Nevada.
