4 trends impacting 2016 seafood sales

1_2016_Trends_2.jpgConsumers are seeking non-genetically modified foods in droves. In 2016, more consumers will buy more “certified non-GMO” foods, NPD predicts. This trend benefits sales of seafood, which are naturally GMO-free. While GMO salmon was approved in 2015, it is not expected to be on the market for at least two years. In addition, legislators and consumer groups are calling for labeling of GMO salmon so consumers can choose whether or not to buy it. “I think people are being cautious because they are seeking natural foods with few additives. I would venture that GMOs detract from ‘natural’ and ‘clean’, and may be viewed in a similar manner to additives,” Solocheck said.
