7-Eleven partners with GAPP on Alaska Pollock Fish Bites

7-Eleven has rolled out Wild Alaskan Pollock Fish Bites for the Lenten season in a limited-time capacity.

The offering includes five bite-sized morsels of herb panko-crusted Alaskan pollock filets served on a skewer, with a side of tartar sauce for dipping. The bites are priced at USD 3.69 (EUR 3.10) daily, and USD 3 (EUR 2.52) on Fridays for 7Rewards members.

Last year, 7-Eleven, which operates and franchises more than 71,800 stores in 17 countries, worked with the Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP) to introduce a fish sandwich made with Alaskan pollock.

The sandwiches proved to be one of the most popular hot foods introduced by the retailer last year, GAPP and 7-Eleven said in a press release.

"We got such great reviews on the Alaskan Pollock sandwich last year, we knew we had to bring back a seasonal fish option for our customers in 2021" 7-Eleven Senior Category Manager of Hot Food Anjuli Wilkie said. "Because we're all about convenience and offering delicious, easy-to-eat food, Fish Bites is the perfect grab-and-go option.”

The Wild Alaskan Pollock Fish Bites capitalize on the current trend towards healthier snacking, GAPP Chief Executive Officer Craig Morris told SeafoodSource.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have a seafood entry into this category and we are even more excited that 7-Eleven chose to make their entry calling out wild Alaska pollock by name,” Morris said.

7-Eleven has been a “true partner to us and the industry, working to help share Wild Alaska Pollock's story both to their owner/operators around the country to get them excited about the new offerings, but also with customers that may be trying wild Alaska pollock for the first time,” Morris said.

7-Eleven is just one of many foodservice operators featuring limited time offerings made with Alaskan pollock. Dairy Queen has become the latest chain to add a pollock fish sandwich, the Wild Alaskan Fish Sandwich, which includes a fried wild pollock fillet, lettuce, and tangy tartar sauce on a toasted bun. Jack in the Box has also debuted a new offering, its Deluxe Fish Sandwich, which features two fillets of wild Alaska pollock covered in crispy panko bread crumbs, along with cheese, tomato, and tartar sauce, Chew Boom reported.
